GASOC PPH Competition

PPH is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide with, every 6 minutes, a woman dying from PPH.

The majority of deaths are preventable and often with simple measures.

We invite novel solutions and innovations to improve management and outcomes in PPH especially in low- middle income countries (LMIC).

Submit bold, pragmatic solutions to improve the management and outcomes of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).

You may choose to focus on one aspect of PPH (for example: pre-existing anaemia, uterotonics or retained placenta) or look at the problem as a whole.

The idea does not need to be fully formed - a clear description of a workable idea rather than a completed functioning prototype, may be sufficient, however the more thought through the innovation the better.

Entries could include but are not limited to:

• devices

• clinical pathways

• digital health applications

• training and education tools (medium could be infographic / film / digital)

We encourage creativity, and practical ideas that take a fresh look at the problem.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Multi-disciplinary collaboration is encouraged which may include obstetricians, product designers, engineers, artists, early career researchers, anaesthetists, midwives, nurses, or other allied health professionals.

All team members should be credited but with one named Lead Applicant.

PRIZE:

• A Trophy made by Graham Tydeman (inventor of the Blood Clock)*

• A 3 minute presentation during a PPH conference at RCOG, London on 5th October 2026 (sorry, there is no funding for travel)

• Potential for support to develop into a workable product

VIDEO PITCH:

Entries must include a 3 minute video answering: What is the innovation? Who is it aimed at? Why is it a good idea? When in the care pathway can it be used? The winning team's Lead presenter must be available to attend or dial into the RCOG event on 5th October 2026.
