Katy is a specialist registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and soon to complete her PhD which is focused on evaluation of point-of-care tests for detection of acute maternal compromise in pregnant women in Sierra Leone. The work includes assessment of the feasibility of novel whole blood point of care tests for placental growth factor and creatinine, as well as a bed side blood pressure and heart rate monitor which calculates shock index as a marker of early deterioration in bleeding and septic women. She has also had significant involvement in community engagement work in Sierra Leone, including co-development and delivery of Policy Labs in Sierra Leone and Zambia, and co-creation, and pop-up community cinema screenings of a docu-film ‘Nema’s Choice’ to raise Pre-eclampsia awareness amongst women and their families.
