Gerard is a Royal Navy General Surgery ST4 training in the Wales Deanery. Gerard’s interest in Global Health started after volunteering for a charity in Kenya in 2008 and was furthered by a Medical School elective in the Trauma Unit at the Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa. Since joining the Royal Navy in 2015 he has deployed across the world including to the British Virgin Islands as part of the UK’s humanitarian response to Hurricane Irma. His clinical interest are Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and Global Surgery and he is one of the two inaugural Humanitarian Innovation Fellows with the Royal College of Surgeons of England looking at ways to use technology to improve training in low resource settings.
