Dr Meabh ni Bhuinneain

Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Mayo Hospital Castlebar, Ireland

Méabh is an obstetrician, gynaecologist and educator who recently joined Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) with assignments in Afghanistan.

She has engaged in global partnership work for two decades in rural health systems and community development in western Kenya and western Ireland. She currently leads the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (RCPI) in partnership with the East Central Southern Africa College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

She worked in secondary-level rural general obstetrics/gynaecology in Ireland for 20+ years leading values-based, progressive, comprehensive care and patient/family engagement. She held various national trainer and regional university posts in both under-graduate and post-graduate medical education.

She completed her under-graduate medicine in University College Dublin and her post-graduate studies in general practice, obstetrics/gynaecology/maternal-fetal medicine, and epidemiology in Ireland, Australia and Kenya.

She holds a MSc in Public Health and Diploma in Tropical Medicine (London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, UL). She is a fellow of the RCPI and the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, UK.

She loves learning – she continues to struggle with music and language lesssons.
