Professor Shayne Doyle

Professor of African History, University of Leeds

Shane Doyle is Professor of African History at the University of Leeds, and editor of The Journal of African History. He is currently PI of an MRC-AHRC partnership project on 'Maternal Mortality in East Africa', which brings together researchers from Anthropology, History, Linguistics, and Theatre Studies in an analysis of the sociocultural context of high levels of maternal death in western Kenya. His previous research focused on the history of HIV in Tanzania and Uganda, and of family planning in central Kenya. He has also worked for the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure, and for the British Institute in Eastern Africa.
