Obstetric Rep 1

John Dalton

Obs and Gynae

I am a Speciality Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in West Yorkshire and have developed a passion for global health since undertaking a short placement at Mengo Hospital, Kampala, Uganda in 2005, as a medical student. I have further developed this passion through my experiences as a 'Filshie Fellow' in RCOG projects in Uganda and as an RCOG 'Honorary Clinical Adviser' to the 'Resilience in Obstetric Skills' project. My interest in medical education developed as an Academic Clinical Fellow in Medical Education and O&G in Leeds between 2011 and 2014, during which time I worked towards my MEd and became an Honorary Lecturer at the Leeds Institute of Medical Education. I have recently undertaken teaching in Kenya with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine for their Extended Obstetric Emergencies course. I feel that GASOC is a fantastic organisation as it feels truly multi-disciplinary and helps stimulate those with an interest in global health across the specialities.

We are a trainee-led group of anaesthetists, surgeons and obstetricians promoting trainee involvement, education and research in low and middle income countries.
